Sinus disease is a problem for many people – regardless of their age and gender. This is the most common reason for visiting a doctor in all countries with a moderate climate. In Poland, it is estimated that about half of the population have undergone acute sinusitis at least once and about 15% suffer from chronic sinusitis.

The paranasal sinuses are spaces filled with air placed in the craniofacial bones, connected to the nasal cavity by holes. They fulfill many roles: they moisturize and heat the inhaled air, protect the skull and eye sockets from injuries, or reduce the weight of the skull.

Typical symptoms of sinusitis are: nasal obstruction, thick nasal mucus, which often flows down the back of the throat, forcing coughing and clearing, feeling of pressure or distending pain in the face, impaired smell, cough, fever.

FESS – Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

is a modern, minimally invasive surgical procedure, during which all obstacles that obstruct their ventilation are removed from the sinuses. The surgery is carried out intranasally, without the need to cut the skin within the face. During the operation the surgeon, looking through the endoscope inserted through the frontal nostrils, using specially constructed tools opens the blocked orifices of all paranasal sinuses, removing the bony and mucosal structures (eg nasal polyps) that narrow them. Patients can breathe calmly after a few days of surgery.

The patient, can go home on the same day or stays under observation for the night. After sinus surgery, there are no contraindications to sports, including swimming, diving, which are not recommended for sinus diseases.

Hydrodebrider – modern rinsing of the sinuses

Hydrodebrider is the first device that effectively and in a very minimally invasive manner removes bacteria from difficult to reach places. Hydrodebrider treatment is usually performed after or during FESS, during which the sinuses have been properly cleared. The surgeon inserts a cord terminated with a specially constructed soft tip through the nasal cavity to the inflamed sinus. The tips for maxillary sinuses rotate by 270 °, precisely removing the residual biofilm under pressure. During the procedure, the surgeon also has the possibility of administering inflammatory drugs and topical antibiotics to the sinus. Precise removal of bacteria is the basis for the proper functioning of the sinuses and avoiding reoccuring inflammation in the future. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, the patient stays in the care of the hospital ward for a maximum of 24 hours.
