Facelifting  is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures. The surgeon “smoothes” the face by removing excess skin, subcutaneous tissue and tightening the fascia (SMAS).

The treatment can be performed as a full face lift, which includes part of the face under the eyes and neck or as a mini face lift, which involves the correction of the face around the jaw. In order to obtain the most satisfying results, a face lift can be combined with surgery to correct eyelids and raise eyebrows.

What does the procedure look like?

The operation is usually performed under general anesthesia and lasts approx. 60-90 minutes. The skin is stretched and its excess is removed. Incisions are located near hairline or in the hair, before and behind the earlobe. When lifting the neck, the incision is located under the chin. After healing, the scars become virtually invisible (the scar is placed longest before the ear)

How to prepare for the surgery?

One of the conditions to undergo facelifting procedure is to have good overall health and good results on all the medical tests (morphology, clotting time, bleeding time). In the period of 2 weeks before the procedure, the patient should not take aspirin, paracetamol or other drugs containing acetylsalicylic acid. You should not consume: vitamin E, omega 3, garlic tablets, herbs. For smokers, it is recommended to stop smoking for 4 weeks before the procedure. It is recommended to consume vitamin C for minimum a week before the planned treatment.

What are the recommendations after the procedure?

The patient stays in the clinic for 2-3 days. The patient wears the special bandages up to 2 weeks. Stitches are removed after 7-10 days after the procedure. During this period, it is advised to limit physical activity.  For the first weeks after surgery, the patient should avoid the sun, overheating and drying the skin.

How do you feel after the procedure?

After the procedure, there may be edema, small blood leaks and a feeling of tension behind the ears. A normal facial appearance is obtained after about 10 days, the total healing lasts about 1 month. The final effect of the treatment is visible after three months.
